Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show
"Winning makes you forget how much you smell like a dog. You've been invited to the White House to drink out of the toilet."
New York is the right place for the dogs, for our furry friends are hardly second-class citizens in this big city. There are dog parks, dog shops, dog hospitals, and even dog spas and hotels. Most importantly, there is a dog show!
Westminster's annual dog show is held every February at Madison Square Garden. The show was first staged in 1877. And that was a four-day event featuring 1,201 dogs!It has survived snowstorms, a national depression, two World Wars and a strike that threatened to shut down the city! Sounds cool! Isn't it? The show has now become the symbol of the purebred dog in show rings as well as in millions of television homes across America.
"Best In Show" wasn't chosen until 1907, when a smooth fox terrier named Warren Remedy took the title. The dog went on to take this title the following two years, making him the only three-time "Best In Show" winner in Westminster history!
