CFA has given awards to the highest scoring (commonly referred to in the cat fancy as "Top") cats, kittens, and premiership (altered) cats for many years. CFA has given awards to the highest scoring (commonly referred to in the cat fancy as "Top") cats, kittens, and premiership (altered) cats for many years. Beginning in 2005, the National Awards were presented to the to the Top Twenty-five Cats, the Top Twenty-five Kittens, and the Top Twenty-five Cats in Premiership at the CFA Annual Awards Banquet in late June. These top cats are called "National Winners" and are entitled to use the designation "NW" in their name.
